Rakesh Raghunathan is a food traveller and chef, with a deep and abiding interest in food history and practices, and its interaction with socio-cultural norms. His travels so far have taken him to the far-flung nooks and corners of South India’s towns and villages, to discover a vast repertoire of indigenous food, and a body of culinary knowledge and practices. His travels are now documented in the form of a television series - ‘Dakshin Diaries’ on Zee Entertainment’s Living Foodz channel that is slated to go on air March 2019. The show’s unique format and seminal content sees him tie in food into the larger social and cultural landscape as he spends time engaging with communities, and observing the manner in which they grow food, cook, eat, and live. A true raconteur, his cookery workshops are usually an act of drama where he narrates the story behind every recipe he has learnt and is known to break into a song every now and then. He also runs a popular food and travel blog called Puliyogare Travels that uses food and travel as lenses to look at and understand diverse communities.
