Description
A prophecy declares that Uthiyan, the dilettante second son of the Chera King, is destined to be a greater king than his elder brother, the crown prince, Shenguttuvan.
Chaos ensues. The court of the Cheras turns into a hot bed of spies, rumours, assassination attempts and plots. The court, in league with the other great powers of Tamilaham, divides into faction, pitting brother against brother.
Now Uthiyan finds himself estranged from his beloved brother and must flee, to save them both. In disguise, he makes his way, to the court of the ruler of Aykudi, Vel Pekan, and his queen, Kannaki, in the company of the famed courtesan Madhavi. His arrival at Aykudi sets off a deadly chain of events that will change Uthiyan’s life forever.
Set at the end of the Sangam Era, The Prince is a richly drawn, highly-researched work of historical fiction about a young royal’s journey to free himself from the burden of his birthright and forge his own destiny.
