Deepika Arwind

Deepika Arwind is a writer and artist currently based out of
Bangalore, India, whose practice primarily engages with the word in
its myriad inhabitations. It seeks to etch a psychological and
emotional map where gender intersects with the social, racial and
political and,in which the female body is imagined and documented a
site of protest, promise and possibility. She is interested in what
different types of fictions (personal & documentary) can reveal about
culture as well as dislocation and structural ruptures.

For several years she has worked as a playwright – and continues to –
now expanding her practice toward the literary and visual in multiple
formats, and produced her first visual-text exhibition at the
Deutchesbauernkriegs Musuem (Böblingen) outside Stuttgart in 2024
using the German Peasants War of 1525 as an entry point to map
connections between the the last fifteen of protests. (Kulturregion
Stuttgart ‘Jetzt’.)

Her play Phantasmagoria (published by Aurora Metro Press UK; available
in the US and UK) premiered in the UK in 2023 in three cities,
produced by Kali Theatre. She is the creator of many performances
including the internationally toured No Rest in the Kingdom, i am not
here, A Brief History of Your Hair, Nobody Sleeps Alone & writer /
collaborator in the collective performance the International
Conference of Insecurity. She has won and been nominated for several
awards for her work, including The Hindu Playwright Award, the
Stückemarkt Prize at Theatretreffen, the Toto Award and the Rolex
Mentor & Protégé Initiative. She is author of the children’s book
Sarayu (published by Le Cosmographe Éditions, France, 2018). She was
most recently a playwright-in-residence at Jagriti Theatre, Bangalore,
Resizenztheater Munich, and a fellow at Akademie Schloss Solitude.She
is represented by Drei Masken Verlag in the German-speaking parts of
Europe. Good Arguments is her debut novel.
