Scott E. Myers (梦之恩) is a translator specializing in contemporary Chinese fiction. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy from Hampshire College and holds master’s degrees in Comparative Literature from New York University, in Chinese Translation from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, and in East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago. He is best known for his English translation of Bei Tong’s Beijing Comrades, which is one of the earliest contemporary gay novels from the PRC. Beijing Comrades was published by The Feminist Press in 2016. In March 2020, his translation of contemporary avant-garde writer Mu Cao’s 2003 novel In the Face of Death We are Equal was published by Seagull Books. Scott recently completed his English translation of Paper Marriage, a 1986 novel by Taiwanese author Chen Ruoxi, and is currently in search of a publisher for this work. He currently teaches in the Chinese Translation program at the Chinese Translation program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.
