Description
Fourteen is the unluckiest number for the women who run beauty parlours in the township of Bishan. In this suburban area of the island of Singapore, 13 small businesses co-existed quietly for years, offering haircuts, bikini waxes and facial bleaches at no-nonsense prices. Then came the swanky salon D’Asthetique (Beauty Is Skin Deep!), run by the slim, upwardly mobile April Chua, stylist to the stars.
April’s plans to upgrade the neighbourhood include bullying and bribing her competitors to comply with “landscaping rules” set by her new society, Nailso (Neighbourhood Alliance of Independent Lifestyle Service Operators). The only person who dares protest is chubby Gurpreet Kaur, owner of Monty Beauty Spa (Beauty From Within. Fourth Wax Free).
Both have clients in the upcoming Grand Glam Singapore beauty contest. Will April’s shoo-in Candy Kang prove yet again why she is Singapore’s sweetheart? Or will Gurpreet’s client, Tara Chopra, prove a star on stage as well as in court?
The winner will determine who is the leader of Nailso. The loser will never be able to show her facials again. There can be only one beauty queen of Bishan!
